You can either add a screen or get the MAF table re-calibrated in the tune. I do custom Efi-Live tuning and I've done a couple myself. When the screen is removed from a MAF, it will make the sensors read differently, and make the car run leaner. By adding the screen, you'll add a little extra fuel, which is why some people are under the impression that they need it with the intake, because the engine now DOES need a little extra fuel.
Really? The MAF is the single reason why you claim the 01 was the fastest? You're too funny
So nothing else could have contributed to any difference between the model years? Only the screened MAF sensor contributed to your claim that it was the fastest?
At any rate, could you please include citations and sources for your next silly claim?
Awhile back I met up with a 2010 ZR1 at a stop light--He asked me if I had a screen in my MAF--I said Yes and he said NO way will I race you-
My install of a VR+PD was about 3 hrs...wifey helped with the usual "hold this" and "hand me that".
My 02Z was unscreened and had some lean codes to pop up.The Halltech honeycomb screen solved the codes and all 3 items gave a good SOTP return for my $ & time.
Very happy with all 3 parts.
Got a used pred handheld to give a little extra zip and got my LTFT's in the -2 to +2 range.
Do a search here on the forum and you will find MANY owners who had to add a screen to their ZO6 MAF's for just this issue.
The vararam will generally only cause codes on the '04 Z, which received a slightly leaner tune (last year, couple more ponies) than previous years. So being closer to the edge to begin with, the VR will cause lean codes occasionally. Had one on my '04 Z and it threw codes quite often. At the time Halltech didn't offer their MAF screen, which likely would've cured the problem. The other cure is a tune! If you don't resolve the lean codes, the PCM will compensate by running the engine pig-rich. Just do a search on the topic...
