A4 owners, which upgrade would you get?
If you could only get one of the following, what would it be?

See the sig,
I would have done gears too, but didn't want to go through the hassle of computer reprogram with TTS.

What's the reason more people aren't choosing the HP increase?
A 50HP increase would be like having the '02 Z06's engine in the car. Seems like that would be a fairly compelling upgrade..

Gotta lay the ground first with gears/converter and then do the big HP mods later.

I am very happy with the total performance of my A4 car. It is an outstanding "grand touring" car, which is what I want.
I am not disappointed that it is not the top drag car nor SCCA Pro - sports car in town.........I bought it to drive on the street.
In 5-7 seconds I am over the speed limit and at the margin of traffic safety in most situations.
Next time I get the Z06, probably 2005 when I expect 450 hp.
In the meantime, why not sell your car and buy a used C5 6 speed, they are faster!
save the wave!

If you already have 3.15 rear, I would go with the TC. If not, then 3.42's & a TC. IMHO the TC &/or TC/gears will provide better performance than 50 HP.
Remember, the 50 HP that the Z06 has is not the main reason that it performs so much better. The LS6 has a much flatter TQ curve & the MN12 tranny provides better acceleration.

I'll take the 50 rwhp. I've got the 3:15's and don't race my car at all, but I like the availability of power when I want it. More power is a good thing.

Do the gears and the Tq Converter. Look at my sig! 50Hp alone will not do that!!

If only one, and no plans for more in the future, I'd do a small converter. Add more HP and you're asking the tranny to work harder, maybe asking too much. Plus, there are those pesky warranty issues when going inot the motor. Add gear and you may not be happy with the bang for the buck with the smallish increase from the 3.15. Add a converter and you will definitely feel faster. Too much converter and you'll wish for more tire.
The right answer is of course to do them all :D

Here's a question? Will doing rear gear and/or a torque convertor cause and problems with warranty service?

The gr4eat thing about the gears is that you feel the improvement whether you are launching, or slowly accelerating in OD on the highway.

Re: A4 owners, which upgrade would you get? (yellowvette01)
It's not that I'm thinking about doing just one of these mods. I was just curious what mod people attributed the most benefit to, which one people liked the most.
If I were to ever get a t/c or gears, I would probably do both at once. And I probably wouldn't even touch the engine unless I expected 'more' than 50 HP.
But if I had made the option 100HP vs. t/c vs. gears, I think the poll would have been lopsided in favor of the 100HP, and would not have been very useful.
Thanks for the votes..

Some dealers will install GM 3.42's for you, so you are OK. If you get a TC, any failure directly attributed to that mod, would not be covered.

I'm doing the Corsa Indy's and Vortex as we speak. In a few months will be doing a 3.42, Pro Torq 2400 T/C, Transgo Shift Kit, and a PCM reprogram.
I've been filtering through the forum for while looking for the right mods and these seem to be the most bang for the buck in an A4 car.
Good Luck modding... :D
