Hi, I've got a 01 coupe , auto is leaking where the trans butts up to the diff. First, theres a little hole there near the middle of that seem, on the bottum side, is that suppoed to be there, thats where the fluid is coming out. I checked the vent/check valve and tightened the hoses on it, still leaking. I've read that too much pressure can cause it to leak past the Oring seal at the rear, and you need to use a scan tool to see if the pressure control sol. is receiving the proper signal from the PCM. Would the innoca EPI3160 scan tool work in this situation? If not, what one would I need? Pulling the unit looks like a big job, so, I want to check the easy stuff first, any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, thank you, Joe

If you have not had it played with man, and someone has worked on it you have a leak and will have to be pulled it out and new seal. Best is to drop the cradle and all...
o, never been worked on, was flushed years ago. Thats what I'm thinking, an Oring or seal between the tran&diff.
Check the fluid level. Mine was overfilled about a pint and once I let the excess out it quit leaking. May not have been leaking at the same place as yours though.
Mine leaked in the same spot. Just a few drops after a drive. Took a long time to find it. There is an O ring between the rear case and A4 case. PITA to change. Let mine go down to barely below full and it seems to have slowed to almost nothing. Hard to pin down that leak as ATF spreads everywhere. I agree that you take out the whole tranny/rear assembly.
OK, I let the trans get up to temp, about 180-190 yesterday and pulled the plug, some fluid came out, not too muck, but I guess it was a little too full, so I'll see if the leak stops. But, I would think it should have been leaking forever if there was too much fluid, right? Now, another thing is, in the workshop manual, it says a bad pressure regulater can be the cause of too much pressure, causing it to leak. I'd like to get a scanner that could read all of the info on my cars computer, but don't know witch one. I'd hate to pull everything apart, and replace Oring and seals, and have it leak again due to a bad press. reg.
