I just received a very nice Blackwing, a power duct and an Icebox with a pre-cut radiator shroud from a member here. Been reading on the best way to set this up, but most of the posts are quite old and relate to a Z06 setup having lean mixture codes. Mine is a 2004, coupe, no engine modifications, minor exhaust mods. What I need to know is am I going to be prone to lean mixture codes when I install the setup? Should I move the MAF from the stock position to the back of the air duct next to the throttle body like others have done? Should I not bother with the icebox and just open up the fog light bezels to get cold air in?

Most of the lean codes come from the Z MAF not having a screen. I helped put a Honker on friends 04 Coupe and we moved the MAF in front of the TB and never got a code. I also just put a Vararam on my 01 Coupe and left the MAF in the stock locaton and didnt get any codes.
We put a Blackwing on a bone-stock '04, and we cut out about half of the foglight shrouds. The install was done very carefully, with no chance of leaks around the couplings. It ran fine in town, but every time he went for a highway trip, it set a lean code on bank one.
After the header/cam install, and a tune, the problems disappeared.
On my 2000 with a Blackwing, I used the Mid-America fog shrouds with the little ovals cut in them. Never ran lean when stock or after cam/tune.
So, the Blackwing can cause problems on the LS1, it just depends on the nature of the incoming air stream. I would think the Icebox might be in the "problem" zone if just cutting away half the fog shrouds created a problem.
You never know, lots of variables. Some have reported fixing it by installing the front weather strip along the hood, thus changing the air flow pattern to the filter a little bit. But not a factor with the Icebox in place.
Moving the MAF back should be a positive, seems logical, and callaway and GM both did it.

What's your opinion of the Vararam? Have you done any testing yet?
