Bought my '99 used and it has the body side moldings. I think the car looks better without them. Any way to remove them without damaging the paint beneath?
I was told ( i have not tried this myself yet ) that idf you use fishing line you can peel them right off then use a prewax cleaner something of that nature to clean off any remaining glue.
They are held on with a two sided foam tape about 1/8 " thick. Heat is the key. If you could wait until a very hot summer day - park the side of the car in direct sun light - it will be a lot easier. Otherwise a strong hair dryer or heat gun will do the trick.
If you can get it hot enough - you can actually pull it off. The fish line is to cut the foam of the tape. Besure to try to go as vertical as possible as to not damage the edges of the molding.
If you car is black - I'll pay freight to take them off your hands when your get them off.
I actually did the opppsit. Bought a car without them and added them on with the tape. I installed some that came off someone elses car.
They come off nice and clean. The car looks so much better w/o them. Use a product like 3M adhesive remover and fishing line. It helps to have another person help pull the molding as your working the line. Start at the back of the door and work forward. There will be a large band of glue left on the door. Just use your thumb and sort of roll it off the body. If anything is left use Go-Be-Gone then use your favorite wax/polish. You'll never know they were there. I have an Arctic White 99 and you can't tell they were ever on the car.
They will come off as suggested above...Save them though you might find someone else who will appreciate them more then you do. Also, you could use them later to hide the nicks you may get from careless folks banging into your doors. Keep in mind however, the nicks you do get may not be in the right location to be covered by the reinstalled BSM's....
Has anyone accomplished this on a black car? I would hate to take mine off and find that you can stil see some residue on the black paint.
I removed the bsm off of my blk. 99 Vette about a month ago. You can't tell they were ever there. I used Goo Gone/ fishing line and a clay bar. Good Luck!
