Default Magna Flow install

Hello everyone...C5 newbie here. Can I cut the stock mufflers/pipes and install the Magna Flows on a set of good ramps, or do I have to trust the kids at the local muffler shop to raise the car properly and install them?

Thank you...Tom Woodgeard - (Warm) Bradenton, Florida

cut? most after market mufflers are catbacks, meaning they bolt to the mid pipe before the axles go over the axles to the mufflers and out. are you going to try to scab in some regular car mufflers?? good luck!

Are the new mufflers intended for your Vette? Or are you trying to simply bolt on Magnaflow mufflers?

Most aftermarket cat-back systems come in multiple pieces. which should allow you to install them in your garage/driveway.

Removal of factory system requires either jacking the car very high for clearance, or cutting the pipe near the axle.

Why not just find a trusted shop? My Dad had his GHL's installed for $50.......well worth the money..IMO.

No.....I meant....cut off the stock system (one piece). I know that the Magna Flows are 2 piece. Can I remove the stock system by cutting, on ramps or is the car still too low to cut and remove.
Thanks....Tom Woodgeard - Bradenton, Florida

Just cut above the axle and you'll be fine.

After you unbolt the pipes and disconnect the muffler hangers, the exhaust will move a great deal and allow you room to work. I think I only had my car in the air less than a foot and I was just fine.

I cut my stockers off with a saws all on ramps. The two piece after market go in no problem. Hard part was aligning for me. Still not perfect.

Yes!!! This is what I needed. It appears I CAN remove the stockers and install the Magna Flows while on ramps.

Do you have a Z06? If so- don't cut them, the Ti system is better flowing than almost any aftermarket system and you can sell it for about $400.

Unless money is the issue- suggest paying a shop to do this (find a good one). Money well spent- to get everything aligned properly.

Update. I cut the stockers about 5" from the muffler. Pipes fell off (easy).Installed the Magna Flows, driver side easy, passenger side, had to remove heat shield. After that....went well. The tips look fantastic!! The sound.....Idle - slightly louder but deeper. Acceleration.......Louder than stock, but not too much.
Best part.......$643.00 shipped!!!!!! EBay item.

for what its worth i did my axle back install last night and if you dont want to cut the exhaust as i didnt, just unbolt the 2 bolts and 2 nut holding the straps for the sway bar and let it swing down out of the way. jack it up real high and the old exhaust will come out in one piece.
