Default suspension questions???

the knowledge of suspension is where i lack being im a little new to the corvette world but thanks to everyone here my knowledge is growing quick. i own a 01 6speed c5 with the f45 suspension. its also lowered on stock bolts. i want it to handle better with better ride. im interested in coilovers. is this a good choice? also i keep reading about installing c6 z51 sway bars. is it possible to add coilovers and the sway bars? the reason im looking into coilovers is because of the extra lowering capabilities vs stock bolts and better ride but i would still like the car to be stiffer in the turns. thanks for the help

You do not need coil-overs to improve handling.

Ok, first of all if you lower an F45 too much it will cause the shocks to be stiffer and that will adversely effect the ride. The ride height sensors will stiffen the shocks and that will make the ride uncomfortable. If you are lowered all the way on the rear stock shocks you are bottoming out and that will make the car bouncy in the back since the only rear suspension is the tires.

So step one is to raise the car back up to the the correct ride height. That doesn't mean raised all the way to stock height, but get it back up to at least 4.5 inches at the front jacking point and 4.75 to 5 inches in the back.

Try it like that and the car will handle a lot better and also ride better than where you are now.

If after that you think you want to go stiffer, you can upgrade your springs and sway bars to improve the handling, but you need to fix what is screwed up on the car before you go around making wholesale changes.

Look at the bars 1st on the car. The coilover on the car it will handle totally diff less stiff and more like all 4 corners are on there on. Better in the corners with coilover for sure. I have had 2 diff sets of coilovers on the car and have them now... See if some one one here that is close to you has one with coilovers on it.

stiffer coil-overs will not improve the ride. Lowering it to much will not improve handling or ride.
