Default New cats

[IMG][/IMG]

I'm installing new hi-flow cats on my 2000 this weekend. Where's the best place to cut, right at the joint where the OEM cats join the headers?

What are the two units in the header pipe before the cats?

You have "pup cats" on that system. Thats what the 2 units are at the header pipes. Are YOU doing the install? If not, let the exhaust shop figure it out. If you ARE doing it, just wait till you get the cats and measure everything up, it will be obvious where to make the cuts.

I am doing the install with two friends this Saturday. Do the pup cats need the main cats in order for everything to function properly?

I have the new cats. They are Pypes Exhaust hi-flows. One thing I'm concerned with is the offset between where the header enters the cat and where the h-pipe connects. It's about 3/4" difference so I might need to add some time of elbow.

Your wasting your money on hi flow cats, the pup cats are there to fire off the main cats early.

So headers with cats would be better?

I read somewhere that the pup cats were put on cars destined for California or the northeast.

Hmmmm. Maybe I'll wait to do the cats until I can do the headers. But the cat-back exhaust is going on this Saturday.

Not all C5's have pup cats, I know the early ones like my 98 didn't I think they started using them in 2000 then dropped them in a later year.

I AGREE----- Hi-flow cats are a waste of time--- what maybe 3-5 RWHP and a pain-----You would be better off to just run NO MUFFLERS and run tour exhaust pipes stright thru without all the bends out the back--Mine are 3" st8 thru which require a little more clearancing but 2 3/4" str8 pipes fit easily--
Actually I gained more HP this way --as i 1st experimented with hi flows--even got the Bullet styke metal substrate ones
AND surprizingly not that loud--- I luv the exhaust note as it gives the car a more throaty race car sound----

PS: I re-installed my STOCK cats----
