I just bought a really nice '00 coupe. On the way home the turn signals cease to work and then began to function again 4 or 5 times.
What's up with this? Anybody got a clue?
The usual causes are the hazard switch (recycle it several times), headlamp/multifunction switch although more rare for blinkers and lastly, the lamps themselves for filament failures.
This issue is pretty common on 2000 C5's. My turn signals did exactly the same thing 3-4 years ago. I bought some electrical contact cleaner ( PLASTIC SAFE version) and sprayed it into the narrow slit opening around the push-in portion of the hazard switch. I then cycled the switch 15-20 times and this would fix it for 3 months or so then it would act up again. I did this for a year or so and decided I needed a fix rather than a band aid. I purchased a turn signal bi-pass cable/ assembly from a forum vendor for $60 or so and took 20 minutes to install it. My turn signals have worked perfectly since then and even when installing LED tail lights they blink normally, no hyper flash!
PS--several forum vendors sell the bi-pass cable, I believe I bought mine from "Corvettes of Houston". JW Motoring also carries them and is outstanding to work with and has excellent products.
Good luck, feel free to PM me with any questions, Ron
