I put on Bilstein sports and the hotchkis sway bars. I should have done this a lot earlier as it feels like a Corvette now compared to the base suspension. The difference from the shocks alone was huge, and the bars only made it better. It feels glued to the road now.
I got the front sway bar on without trouble, but for the rear I had to use a file so the end links would fit through the lower A-arm mount. This worried me at first, but i only had to minimally file so decided to do it. Is this a common occurance?
What are the torque specs for the adjustable end links? I have them torqued to stock specs (53 ft. lbs) and I followed the directions from shawn at LAPD and sprayed the end links with brake cleaner then lubed them well with synthetic lube. They are pretty noisy still -- I can deal with it, but riders make anti-chevy comments. Should these be torqued tighter? There was no mention of torque specs on the install sheet.
Does anyone know how the adjustable end links work? I have 2 threads showing with the bolt tightened so the end link will not twist. What does making them longer/shorter accomplish?
Re: Hotchkis install - adjustable end link questions (Jeff Jeff)
I intstalled mine last weekend also..... I am having problems with the front sway bar....when I turn sharp it rubs against the wheel... How many threads do you have showing on the front end links?
On the rears I have 6 threads showing but everything is firm and there is no noise..
Thx,
Re: Hotchkis install - adjustable end link questions (Jeff Jeff)
I can't help with the installation, I had The Vette Doctors do it. I can tell you that they didn't have to file anything. Also after driving around for 1 month with clanking and clunking I went back to The Vette Doctors and had them re-torque the end links as hard as he could, and there is no more noise whatsoever.
Re: Hotchkis install - adjustable end link questions (Jeff Jeff)
have been going thru same thing past 2 weeks. torqued to specs, sounded good for 2 days. started to clunk and clank. got under car with 3 ft breaker bar and cranked the h*** out of the bolts. figured if i broke it i would just go with stock metal end links, (still might do just this). got rid of the clanking pretty much for the past 4 days, but there is a new improved noise. sort of like the sound when universal joints are going out, and it is quite in the cool mornings and gets louded as the day goes on and everything heats up. suspect the bushings. i have the old ones with what looks like pieces of string in the bushing material. hotchkiss is sending a set of the new improved bushings, should be here early next week. (when you push down on the rear of vette it makes the sound when warmed up, quiet first thing in the morning.) i had to ream out 3 of the bolt holes in the vette to get my end links in also. interested to hear how it goes with your install.
good luck
