The dipstick tube on my 2000 attaches to the exhaust pipe with a small bolt. Later model C5s moved the dipstick forward and the tube attaches to the block with a larger bolt.
Does anyone know if you can use the later design dipstick on the earlier models?
I'm hoping someone here has an answer without me having to pull the dipstick out of a friend's 2003 model.
The dip stick and the tube are a pair and are year specific. ( 1997 - 2000 used one pair and 2001 - 2004 used a different pair) You can use the later year tube and the corresponding dipstick on an earlier year car. Do NOT mix parts across the year range. You will have no clue as to how much oil is actually in the engine if you do.
Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Of course I would use the dipstick for the appropriate year/tube. Thanks for making that clear for anyone else that reads this thread.
The later model tube is longer - so the dipstick would have to be longer.
I was concerned they changed the hole the tube goes in. Reason would tell you they would not re-design the pan/block just to change the dipstick (but safer not to assume). I'll have to check to make sure there is a bolt hole on the head for the later model tube to mount to.
I have a 2000, and changed to later manifolds, and the corresponding later dipstick. The later stick worked fine, and there is a threaded hole in the 2000 head to attach it. Only hangup might be if your stock 2000 manifiold somehow interfered, but I doubt it.
Of course, you could pick up a really cheap set of later manifolds, they bolt right on the 2000, and will show an actual 6-7 Hp improvement.
Since you have the later stick, all you would need to do is re-fab your AIR pip a bit on the right side.
