The car keeps forgeting who I am and won't open the doors :D Every few days or so, I have to hold both the lock and unlock button down at the same time for a few seconds before the remote entry will work?
Also sometimes with passive on off of the fob, it will still open the doors when I get close?
So I turn in on, then back off again, and it stops doing that, at least for a while???
Re: Key Fob Issues for Alarm/locks, Help! (TexCorvette)
I have the 2000 version which is slightly different but have experienced similar problems when I first got the car. I'm convinced the FOB is cheaply made and has poor battery contacts. Every bump causes a brief battery disconnect and it loses sync with the receiver. Open the FOB and remove the battery. Clean the contacts and battery with alcohol. Using a pointed tool, carefully pry up the center contact. You need to bend it slightly so it will press more tightly to the battery. Reinstall the battery and close up the FOB. This has solved my problems for more than 2 years, Good luck :yesnod:

I have a similar but different problem...When I dont drive the vette for say 4 or 5 days and I go to start, the car will not turn over. DIC says nothing. There is no Pull Key and Wait message. I try again in 2-5 minutes and the car starts...WTF?? Dont know if I am experiencing Column Lock...However the Column is NOT locked when this failure is happening to me. I'll try cleaning the contacts on my FOB. I seem to think that the anti -theft system is not recognizing who I am...Maybe also try my other FOB...Anybody else have any ideas???

Try this: clean the key pellet thoroughly with alcohol. Then, wet the pellet with alcohol and slide it in and out of the ignition switch several times. Afterwards, wipe the pellet down with alcohol again. I'll bet your problems go away. :yesnod:

TexCorvette. Examine the seam around the FOB. Near the key ring end you'll find a wider slot to accept a screwdriver. I actually use a knife edge and carefully pry it open starting at the key ring. Best to remove the key ring first. The top and bottom are a press fit so I continue to pry along the seam until it opens. Keep the button side face down as you open it. That way the battery will stay in its compartment so you can see which side is down (if case you might have a question about it). Really pretty easy. Don't over-do the bending of the center contact. Just enough so it will push a little harder against the battery. :seeya

Check battery voltage in fob, these are 3 volts. Does your car have tire pressure monitors? Are they working ok? The wheel sensors send signals to the RKE ( Remote Keyless Entry ) receiver, so that is a good test to see if the reciever is working properly. If the fob gets out of synch all the time, my guess would be battery, then fob. Try using your other fob and see what happens...
Hey thats funny you say something about the wheel sensors? I have different wheels on the back without sensors right now. This could have something to do with it? My other fob's battery is dead. I will buy two new batterys from the dealer, and make sure they fit tight and start from there.
