Anyone happen to notice their '97 - '02 gets a TON of paint chips? I notice them all across the front end and elsewheres. I don't make it a practice to tailgate people, so I'm wondering if there's an issue with the durability of the factory finish.
Sorry to hear about your paint chips. Thats the only reason my C5 wears a bra. I don't like the bra look but I like the look of paint chips even less..
Who puts out a nice bra for the car? I'd like is to be a really tight fit, yet easy enough to remove if I decide to show the car.
Where'd you get yours? And last but not least.... how much was it, if I may ask?
Thx
I have the Speed Lingerie bra and mirror covers. They come in colors that match the C5 exterior colors real well. Check some of the pictures on my website below. Mine is the latest generation which fits very tight and attaches underneath the front hood as well as the fender wells.
Nothing wrong with the paint, it's just typical of any car with a low front end. My last car was a BMW Z3. That car suffered much more from stone chips than the Vette does, and the Vette has more miles on it. Though there are some flaws in the stock paint, the durability, at least on mine, seems better than average.
I spoke to a very reputable body shop in my town about doing the wet sanding and they TOTALLY advised against it. It was their opinion that the factory finish was good, just that the SMC body panels are molded and come out with slight ripples in them.
Their ultimate advice was to simply wax the car frequently and the wax would give the car an "appearance" of smoothness. I remember watching a show on Speed channel that said the same thing, so maybe the bodyshop wasn't just feeding me a bill of goods.
Let us know how the car turns out. By the way, is the bodyshop going to fix those pesky paint chips??
Question to all...... Has anyone used the factory touch-up paint on their cars with success? Just wondering if it's worth getting.
Paint Chips? Yes. Tons on the front bumper. But the front bumper only.
I thought this was very strange. My '01 with 600 miles on it had more chips than my '89 with 80 k!
My researched revealed the following:
My car was dropped off the truck when delivered, and the dealer repainted the front bumper. This information lead me to press for a repair.
After a great deal of stress, a local body shop I was referred to repainted the front end at 900 miles at the dealers cost.
Now at 3000 miles, not a single chip.
You tell me?
