I'm looking at buying a low mile (24k) 04 auto Vert. It would be a sister car to my 04 Z06. (Both LeMans Blue Commerative Editions). The vert appears to be in good shape but the light shale interior can easily get stain, rubber top seals get dried out via exposure when the top is down etc,
My thoughts are: any known issues with 04 verts..things that seem to break/wear more often with the vert vs my frc? Any issues so far in getting replacement parts of out of GM or has GM bailed on us C5 lovers already?
I read somewhere that GM got permission from the Feds to stop making parts after 10 years. A couple years ago I was at the dealer to get a new fuel filter. Parts guy asked me if I needed the tubing to the filter as well. He said there were only 7 left in the country and the part will no longer be made.
Its a sad fact but parts will not be available forever. That's usually when the aftermarket businesses kick in and starting making things for us. No worries though, the Corvette is one of the cars out there that we'll be able to get most any part, forever via that aftermarket!
We had a mountain cruise this weekend and out of 5 FRCs that showed, mine was the only car that didn't have the plastic trim (mostly on the driver's side) snapped in two or showing the indication it's about to happen. Those parts are not available. (hint to any smart vendors out there )
Also the roof liner is not available at any cost unless you get it from salvage. Not good to hear when most FRCs will likely leak at some point.
You know the rocker panels for any C5 are not available.... tons of stuff for '97-'00 cars (mechanical) not available.
Who says that a clean C5 in 25 years wont be worth some money?!
