Default Dual zone A/C

Hey folks

I have a 1999 convertible with the dual zone a/c. Passenger side blows really cold, about 38 degrees. Drivers side blows cool, but not cold like the passenger side. I changed the sensor on the drivers side. When I set the drivers dial to 60 degrees it gets cold, but not as cold as the passenger side. If I move the drivers dial just a degree or 2 it gets warm. Does something need to be recaliburated? I am at a lost. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
The Gold

Check your codes, then do a search on "repairing HVAC actuators", "reindexing actuators", etc. until you find the information you are looking for. Sometimes your problem can be fixed by just playing with the settings, or you could very well have the broken actuator gears that are common. Bill Curlee had a post on playing with the settings that has helped some people, and recently there was a post by a guy who had repaired his cracked gears and saved the cost of new actuators. I have saved some of the info to my e-mail; if you don't find what you need get in touch with me and I'll send it to you. But that shouldn't be necessary if you search. Good luck, and damn those useless Dual-Zone units to Hades.

Hello

Thanks for the reply.
I did check the codes, NO HVAC codes. The actuator I replaced on the drivers side was brand new. Still ths same problem. Any other suggestions?

hmmm...I had that issue but instead of changing the actuator I bought a new controller with the built in logic 2001 and up and that solved my problem

Thats interesting in that I have a 99 Vert with the same thing and always wondered if a new head unit would solve it, or not. I know this doesn't help you, but there probably are others out here with the same prob., like me. So Pewter99, when you had this problem, was your car throwing a code? Or, just not cooling on the drivers side?

NO HVAC codes just not as cold on the drivers side as the passenger side. Maybe try another actuator?

You can do it either way...if the actuator is broken or the teeth are stripped on the gear OR if it's just WAY out..the new head unit won't fix the issue.

The actuator re-index is free

to the op: you gotta search before you post a thread... there is another topic VERY similar to yours on the first page of the tech section already where I posted a link to this http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...errerid=228945

Thanks for the reply

The actuator I installed was new. There are no broken grears and no abnormal noises. No HVAC codes. when I install another new actuator is there a system I need to follow to recalibrate everything?

Same problem on my 98 last year. It was low on R134 freon. Have that checked before you go tearing apart the dash and HVAC system. There were a ton of posts last spring and summer on the older C5's doing the same as yours is.

There is no procedure to recalibrate...in your original post you said you replaced a "sensor" not an actuator. It will automatically calibrate when you plug it in, hook the battery up or pop the fuse back in.

You can pull the AC fuse in the passenger side footwell for a couple of minutes and see if the issue goes away.

It's odd that you don't have a code, you may have to replace the entire head unit as Pewter99 already said.

edit: and DOHHHH...definitely check your R134A high and low side pressures first

edit again: I also have re-indexed my actuators on both sides, the code still came back again after a couple of months...so I re-indexed it again and now it's gone. I'll be getting the head unit either way but it's just more $$

Hey 00Corvette thanks for responding.

Your right I stated sensor, I ment actuator. I apologize. But yea there are not codes. I ran the DIS twice, no codes regarding the HVAC. There were some codes for other items with H behind them but I know the H refer to History. I did clear all codes, no HVAC showed up. I will check the pressure in the system.

With a new actuator will I have to reindex it?

Thanks
