This past week I read the stored codes in my '98 for the first time. I bought it two years ago at 5K miles; it now has 12K. I was amazed by the number of "H" codes- many that came from the Door Control Modules. There was one PCM code for "Theft Deterent" , and a Traction Control System code. There was a Body Control Module code for back-up lights. The ones that really got my attention were the three that referred to the dreaded Column Lock- B2587,2588,and 2593!
This all puzzles me since I have had none of the referenced problems in the two years I have owned the car- nor do the prior service records show these problems.
I cleared the codes- is there any thing else that I should do? What is going on here?
Had a 'Traction System' message come up, then lost power. After restarting, I had a check engine light. I checked all the codes and wrote em down. Don't know why it happened, couple of guysand gals said it might have been a 'computer glitch'.
Right now, the problem seems to have disappeared on its own. If it's a real problem, it'll come back soon enough!
I can't help you with the problem BigMac2, but I can tell you that my 97 had a bunch of history codes stored when I checked it the first time also. Now I just check it occasionally and reset any H codes I find. Last few times I looked there were not any codes at all. Go figure.
I'd reset the codes and see what happens. My 2001 had about 5 when I first checked it. None in the 4 months since. If you want, E-mail me and I'll send you the manual info on the codes you referenced, but I'd see if they reappear.
Most, if not all of the codes you have mentioned can be thrown when the
battery is disconnected. If all are "H" history codes, then reset if you like
and forget about it.
