Theres a line running from the back of the drivers said valve cover, then to the filter, and on the other side of the filter it goes to the throttle body.... is this right?
Ive seen catch cans where they have a line from the top of the throttle body to one fitting, and then the another line to the bottom of the throttle body.

Sounds right. The crankcase vapors that come off the valve covers should flow through the catch can, and then out of the catch can and into the intake manifold. That is the flow route.

This sounds wrong. Not sure what kind of setup that was.
A catch can is simply a can to condense and catch oil out the crankcase vapors that normally travel from the engine to the intake manifold. The catch can is simply put in the line that the crankcase vapors travel through
