Just installed a 2002 Z06 TI exhaust on my 2001 coupe. Sounds pretty good. E-mail me if you interested in sound clips or if you can post them for me. I was wondering if gutting my pre-cats would give me any performance gains or sound improvments. I have noticed a SOTP gain just by installing the system but was expecting a little more. Not quite the Z06 sound. 405 makes a difference as well I guess. What is the best way to do so and is there any inherent problems in doing so? Engine codes, A/F mixture off??
Don't waste you time IMO...Pull the cats! They are DEAD and very RESTRICTIVE weight(32lbs.)and you will pick up about 10RWHP/5RWT and the sound is Nasty like this..http://www.badazcorvettes.com/~vstella/video/ARE226.mpg :eek:
I wish i could just get away with it. I did so on a previous car and had problems with inspections. I have found ways around it but not really worth the headach IMO.
Gutted pre-cats over weekend. Fairly simple to do. No check engine light. No codes. Exhuast slightly louder...perfect. Awakened my PRTs.
Set aside couple hours. Fore to aft...6 flange nuts, two brace bolts, two O2 sensors, two spring hanger nuts, four cat back bolts. Use anti-seize compound on exhaust bolts and nuts. Rec. a small mirror for probing purposes.

I just did the same to my 2002; gutted the pre cats. There was a sound improvement and a SOTP difference (tho... it may have been partly mental) Then about a week later I installed Z06 titaniums. Again... a further improvement in sound and now a definite SOTP improvement. Besides, gutting the pre-cats is a free mod! Go for it.
Do you have instruction on how to gut the cat's? Is it easy? I'm about to add the A&A ehaust mod with a magnaflow X pipe and was thinking of gutting the cats while I'm down there. :D
