Default Best fuel system old or new?

OK guys I am sooo tired of this fuel stuff.
I have a 1997 C5 which came with the return style fuel setup modulator on the fuel rail..
Earlier I changed this to a single line setup.
Currently one line feeds my fuel rails. Where the fuel filter is located in the rear I changed it to the newer 2001 style with the regulator built in. I T'd off the lines to return to each tank in the rear of the car. not using the return lines from the fuel rails at all. Now they return right after the regulator/filter.

Now I am reading that this is NOT the best way to go. I am reading that I SHOULD go back to the return line from the rail with a regulator up top where the fuel lines are. Should I do this?

OR

I could get a booster pump and put in the rear of the car. I have to go in and change the float electronics and several other things here in a few weeks. Im planning a wrench day..(changing to the ls6 valley cover, installing the inspection plate, changing the oil, changing the wheels, changing the plugs, changing the intake bolts to stainless ones, changing the fuel line to a shorter one from the rail to the car) I have a list here...lol.

Back to topic...

Also for some reason after driving for a while pressure builds in my tank and sits there for a LONG time. If I dont eventually open the gas cap and release it. it bursts out of a line that is in the rear quarter of the passenger side behind the tire. Not sure why that is.

I wrote all this because I just want to fix all of these fueling problems. If the old return from the rail style is better I guess Ill pony up for a regulator setup for up there. If the setup I have is fine but needs this or that, please chime in and give your thoughts. I went this route because I was told to put in the oem regulator and be done with the regulation problems. My fuel pressure guage doesnt read but I ordered 2 last night.

Finally I was about to order the racetronix kit but it APPEARS to just be a 10 guage wire running from the alternator with a relay. Am I missing something because I can wire that without paying 70 bucks. Now from what I saw on the diagrams if I do go with a booster pump setup. I would gladly buy the kit.

You removed the best fuel system from your 97 and installed the later version?
The system you removed is capable of supporting 600+ RWHP with a FP booster.

The Racetronix harness is a little more then just a 10G wire and a relay but it's not difficult to make if you know how.

Yes I did. Well I couldnt get the fuel pressure right before even with two different regulators so I did it I did it...lol. I am searching for a good regulator that wont put me in the poor house so I can go BACK to what I had and put a regulator on the rail or something I guess.

Are you saying that you changed the factory pressure regulator on the rail twice, and still had issues? What was the original problem?

I went to a fast style fuel rail. In a nutshell that was the problem.
I later found out that the regulator was ON THE RAIL..lol. I am use to the Camaro setup it has a regulator in the tank so I ASSumed... the vette was the same.

I tried 2 different external no name regulators and neither could get my pressure down. It stayed around 90psi. I read on here where the stock 2001 regulator would keep it regulated to 58-60ish PSI and no adjustement was needed. I ordered one and switched to it. I still have the hard lines there for the fuel rail return line setup so I can go back. I will however have to find a regulator solution. The one I saw was like 850.00 I will pay what I have to but dag on my chevelle the fueling was sooo simple. I would think it would be on here too.

I don't mean to take this in another direction but I have a 98 and I want to do what you did. I have an LS2 with LS3 heads but I'm stuck using my modified rail with the L76 intake. I have a nice new L76 fuel rail with 39# injectors that I can't use.

I was going to get the lines from a 99-00 but you idea sounds good if I can get a good seal on the return at the filter.

I know everyone says how good the fuel rail return is etc. but the Z06 and ZR1 don't use it either so I'm thinking this is over-rated.

So what did you use to connect loop back lines at the filter?

I should add that the fuel tank vents through a charcoal canister that is relieved by two purge valve solenoids on the left side of the fuel rail. The PCM commands the valve to open at certain intervals.

Thanks,
Jon

Advance or autozone sells the lines that will just connect to the filter with the same type connectors I used those they are 19.99 that into a T to the old lines. Its confusing to explain but I plan on getting under it this weekend I wanted to post pics of the entire setup in this thread anyway. PM your email and Ill try to send them day after tomorrow.

This apples to oranges, the C6 uses and entirely different fuel control setup.
Different pump and the PCM controls fuel delivery on demand.
And the C6 ZR1 is also well below the power levels we see in the C5 with FI.
