What is the BEST "underhood" intake?
Also considering that I do NOT want to cut the shroud or oil the filter. I like a simple filter replacement situation like with the stock system.
Maybe this is asking for too much but I thought I would check with you experts.
Thanks

Re: What is the BEST "underhood" intake? (BLK02C5)
It seems to me that the choices are:
Halltech
Blackwing
2002 Z06 cover
??
The only problem is I don't want to get wrapped up in cleaning and oiling any filters so it will have to be a good product that only requires periodic filter change and no other maintenance.
And of course, no bottom breathers as I use this car as my daily driver and do not want any problems with water.
This is making me crazy as I am not sure ther is anything out there that meets all these requirement and has some kick butt extra power over the stock intake

For underhood, I would just get the 02 z06 cover and K&N replacement filter. It offers roughly the same performance as the Donaldson (Donaldson may be slightly better) and its cheaper and more stock looking. Otherwise if you don't care about the $$ and like the look, the Donaldson is the best value underhood. Trick offers the same performance in a nicer looking setup for more money.
But you should come to your sinces and get a Cold Air System... you get roughtly double the gain of a underhood system. Vortex and Proflow are the best values.
All these will require you re-oil the filter instead of changing it.... Actually with the Vortex and Proflow you could buy separte filters for $45-55 each time, but they are easy to clean so there is not need to.

The Blackwing we offer is the better than the 02 lid change. You get much more air to the car and more power.
As for changing the filter versus cleaning, the BW is easily removed and cleaned with a household product like simple green.
The K&N can be cleaned and oiled like the BW or just swapped out. Swapped out at about 50 bucks a pop though. Much cheaper to clean one every 7500 miles or so.
WE OFFER THE BW FOR $225 FOR 01/02 CARS AND $215 FOR THE 97-00 MODELS.

If you don't want to cut the shroud and want a simple install - the Blackwing is undoubtedly the way to go. As for not wanting to oil it - I don't think you hae much of a choice - you'll have to oil it sooner or later, or change the filter. :seeya

I went with a K&N filter and a vortex air rammer. I didn't want to cut my shroud, so I order a precut one. Ecklers or Corvette Central sells for $60.
