That is the question....I have been contemplating an X-pipe to go with my Borla Stingers but have heard that this quiets the system down a bit...any one with experience in this area????
Don't know about anyone else here, but I have had the A&A exhaust mod and now the Corsa Indys and I cannot wait for the x-pipe. They both sound gruesomely ugly at idle and when I rev. I would definitely get it.
If your car has the big H-pipe from the factory it will make a smaller difference going to and X than it would if you have the small H-pipe from factory. So which do you have? If you already have the Stingers on your car and your happy, I would leave it allone. I have a set on order.
As a fellow Floridian, I would recommend STRONGLY that you pull the cats and add the x-pipe..It sound s great.!!:D Here have a listen with TPIS headers/x-pipe/corsa Indy's and NO cats...BTW, I have a cam too!
I have the Stingers along with an x-pipe...doesn't reduce the sound a bit but does reduce the popping during decel....I had my stingers installed at the same time as my headers so i can't tell you the difference there but i think it's usually louder when you add headers.
A few questions... does the x-pipe go in place of where the cats were? Does the x-pipe net any horse power gain? Does adding an x-pipe increase or decrease the volume of the exhaust? I'd appreciate it if anyone had underbody pictures of a vette so i could see what it looks like stock and with an x-pipe.
If you don't want to spend a bunch to try it out ,I have an X-Pipe for $89. It's not shiny but it does the same thing as the others. It will definately improve the idle sound although it will quiet it down at the top end SLIGHTLY.

It goes in place of your stock H-pipe, although some have added it before the h-pipe to keep both. Of the people that have dynoed with an x-pipe I've heard of anywhere from 1-6hp gains... altough 2-4hp would be reasonable to me. You can find some installed pics if you do a search.
I can make the popping etc go away by watching how I down shift, it's real simple. As far as the "motor boat" sound at idle. I guess I don't know what one sounds like. I think my Indy's sound like a muscle car from the 60's. Guess I need to hang out at the marina more often.

 Was that dependent on model year or something else?

97s and 01+ were all big, 98-00 where mixed... some owners have had large and some small, seems to work out to like 75% small and 25% large, maybe GM was using different vendors.
