If you want to make sure that active handling and traction control is not on, pull the fuse for it. When the faction control is off it is off.

So for a drag race against someone I should have the button on or off? I was told to have it on Comp Mode. And instead of flooring the pedal just feather it then once I am rolling a bit then hit it to the ground?

I have a 2001 vette, What would give me the most power from a dead start? Thanks in advance for your answers and time

It's not an "on" or "off" position. You have to press the button, and hold until it goes into competitve mode.

Yes, competitive mode for drag racing. How you lauch the car depends on your setup....i.e. auto/manual, street tires/drag radials, power level, etc.

Yes, Hold down the button for 5 seconds and it turns to Comp Mode, for drag racing, 2001 350 horses from factory, and I have a auto trans, big wide 295/35/18 size tires in the rear, and a modified Mass air flow sensor, and a 80mm throttle body (big mouth I call it) and predator Diablo helped set up the car, I purchased it this way, the only thing I did was a full tune up! I don't know how much horses I make? I purchased the car set up this way, I would say about 375??? But I burn a lot of cars on the road.

If I have it on Comp Mode even with my big rear tires it still wants to fish tail a bit when I floor it, so I have to feather it first then floor it.

I read I could run the car on 2nd gear on the auto trans for great power and speed off the line and actually leave it there through out the race, True?

One more question Lucky and thanks for all your help is is it dangerous to leave it on Comp Mode all the time?

If you leave it on, when you break traction, the PCM will pull timing to control the torque. Not what you want to happen, when you are doing a burnout....drag racing,
Lucky You wrote this and then you say leave it on the Comp Mode for drag racing? Confussed??? I am new with a C5 car please explain?

This is my original statement regarding competitive mode:

"If you leave it on, when you break traction, the PCM will pull timing to control the torque. Not what you want to happen, when you are doing a burnout....drag racing, etc. While the traction control is off, you are still able to take advantage of the Active Handling. Some guys don't like it, but it's straightened me out a few times, when the car got squirley."

I acknowledged, that I mean to say :

"If you leave it off, when you break traction, the PCM will pull timing to control the torque. Not what you want to happen, when you are doing a burnout....drag racing, etc. While the traction control is off, you are still able to take advantage of the Active Handling. Some guys don't like it, but it's straightened me out a few times, when the car got squirley."

...and that's as far as I'm going. If you want to learn more....google answers a lot of questions......I'll give you a head start.

My understand is TC/AH is on by default.

Comp mode (holding down 5sec) will turn off traction control but leave AH on so if you get squirrely the car will still try to straighten out.

Turn off, the dash light comes on and you are on your own.....

Lot of codes. Try clearing them all, then drive (carefully!) to see which ones come back. I don't have my manual here; perhaps the codes are listed somewhere here on the Forum or someone else will be kind enough to identify your codes for you.

This is what I have gathered from various sections of the manual:

Summary
There are 3 modes
1) Traction Control Off, Active handling Off
2) Traction Control On, Active handling On
3) Competitive Driving = Traction Control Off, Active Handling On

Traction Control (TCS)
•This limits wheel spin by working the rear brakes and reducing engine power.
•TCS comes on automatically when you start the car.
•If it engages (i.e. if you start spinning the wheels and it kicks in to reduce spin), the DIC shows TRACTION SYS ACTIVE (momentarily)
•To toggle TCS on or off, press the Active Handling button on the center console briefly. This will also toggle the Active handling System in conjunction with TCS. The DIC will briefly display "TRAC/ACT HNDLG -ON" or "TRAC/ACT HNDLG -OFF".
•If it is OFF, then the skidding-corvette-rear-end light (TCS light on the instrument panel) is ON.
Active Handling System
•Active Handling helps maintain directional control by selectively applying any one of the vehicles brakes.
(The video has an interesting segment on this feature)
•Active Handling comes on automatically when you start the car.
•If it engages to regain vehicle control, the DIC says "ACTIVE HANDLING" (briefly).
•If you turn the Active Handling System Off, the traction control system will also be turned off. It is toggled on or off the same way the TCS system is toggled (see above)
•If it is OFF, then the skidding-corvette-rear-end light (TCS light on the instrument panel) is ON.
Competition Mode:
•Competitive Driving mode allows the driver to have full control of the rear wheels while the Active Handling system helps steer the vehicle by selective brake application.
•When on, the DIC displays "COMPETITIVE DRIVING"
•To turn on Competition Mode, press the Active Handling button on the center console for more than 5 seconds.
•To turn it off, press the button briefly. Does the active handling/traction control then turn ON?
The manual states that ABS remains on with the traction control and Active Handling Systems off. I assume this means it also remains on when in Competitive Driving mode?

Yes, TC & AH is always on by default whenever the car is started. GM designed it to always provide the safety net ... it's up to the driver to decide if he wants to take some or all of the safety net away.

You will always have the ABS system functionality no matter what mode TC or AH is in.
