Problem shifting from 6th to 5th resolved.....
It is a '99 coupe with only 12,500 miles. I just got it this past Friday and put about 300 miles on it over the weekend. :) What I didn't find out in my test drive, came to light during the weekend. I couldn't down shift from 6th to 5th, but I could shift from 4th to 5th with no problem.
Has this happened to anyone? And what would cause this to break with so few miles?
I was thinking that the previous owner didn't drive it like it was built to be driven and probably didn't even shift into 6th very often. The car was placed into service 2/99 and sold 1/99. Right when the 3/36 miles expired. The car still smells new.
I remember reading on the C4 forum a couple of years ago about staying away from very low mileage cars because the parts would go bad if it wasn't driven a lot. But on a 3-year-old car?
Anyway, after seeing the rear and the transmission on the ground, I felt light headed and sick to my stomach. But it is all covered under warranty from Carmax and they are paying for the rental...how about a Dodge P/U for a rental...yeee haa. Brings back painful memories of my first car...and '87 Dodge Omni, 5 speed. Or was it 4 speed. Good, the memeories are fading.
Maybe the prior owner had the habit of "resting" his hand on the stick?
