I have a 2000 convertible with no keys and I have an ignition switch from a parts car can I plug in the different switch and go or do I need some programing help. Thanks for any input.
You are also going to need the resister pellet size/value from the original lock. If the key with the new lock does not have the same resister pellet, then the car is not going to start. May have to go to a dealer for this....

A dealer can find out what resistor value you need by looking up the vehicle's VIN number in the GM system and I think they can then make you a key. You can also install your other switch/lock cylinder (it's the lock cylinder that's the important part here) but then you'll need your BCM reprogrammed to recognize that particular key.
Btw, unless the dealership knows you personally, always bring proof of ownership (and ID) of the car.
