Eliminating 1 - 4 Shift C5

Eliminating 1 - 4 Shift C5
I have just bought my first Corvette, a 99 convertible, and I'm loving it 
I'm not one to mod cars too much but I'm already tired of the 1 - 4 Shift feature. After reading blogs and forums till my eyes just about bleed... I see that on the C6 to eliminate that is just a fuse. Could it be that easy on a C5? I think NOT
Most of what I have read says that the C5 needs a CAGS eliminator. Is this the only way of handling this issue???

But sometimes, I catch myself driving like I'm in a PRIUS or something... LOL
What does it take to program this out?
Will I have to take it to the STEALERSHIP?
