Default Tire Pressure Sensor Seal Question

The sensors that came with my car are the early sensors like below, but have a gasket like the 01+ sensors (between sensor and nut). I've discovered today that there probably is not suppose to be a gasket on early sensors, just the 0-ring. Is this correct? Since I believe they all have these gaskets, do I need to pull them all out to remove the gasket or OK with both o-ring and gasket. My only concern might be thread engagement on the nut. Thoughts?

The earlier 1977-2000 sensors used only o-ring seals. If you have not already installed them I would use only the o-ring, but use new o-rings. #9 o-rings from Lowes or Home Depot work fine. If you have already installed them, with both o-rings and gaskets, I would not worry about it providing that there are no leaks. There appears to be plenty of threads on the stems to tighten the retaining nuts securely.

Any experience out there with Fix a Flat type inflator in a can that is safe for Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors?

OK, Thanks. I have one to put on, I'll use just the o-ring, and leave the others the way they are.
