Re: The Best transmission for A4 (940ZEB)
Absolutely 100%. That is the whole idea surrounding the core! Wait, don't fix something if it not broken and as you have done, just realize the reality of what you may be facing in the future by doing significant mods.
Goodluck and you will be all :D (I guarantee) after the install of your gears and that bad as s high stall yank converter!
Steve-
I think Nitrovette has the right idea. I considered getting a heavy duty trans since I like to run road courses in the car and the manual downshifting can be hard on it. But I just put on a big cooler, get Blackstone-labs to do a trans fluid sample once or twice a year, and bought the GM extended warranty through Ken Fischer. No problems so far, but my engine is stock and I don't drag race. Well, not officially.....
It looks like I have tranny problems :( . I was hoping it was just the torque converter because my bro-in-law dropped the pan and saw small metal parts(shavings and teeth?) that he hoped was from the torque converter. After taking out the tc (and everything else in the rear!) and draining it, the tc looks ok inside, so he thinks there's problems inside the transmission. I've already ordered 2800 rebuilt tc directly from Yank for $350, and now have to do something about the transmission.
I'm looking for just getting my car back on the road at this point for as cheap as possible, nevermind getting a bullet proof tranny. I realize this is a terrible place to skimp, but what can I expect by trying to find a reputable local tranny shop to do the rebuild? Or what would a dealer charge? The part is already out of the car, and my bro-in-law will put it back together. My car isn't getting any high-horse power mods (like I said, I can't even afford the tranny cost at this point, never mind a super-charger).
