Default Oil Filter Relocation worth the time?

How many guys on here run oil filter relocation kits? I doubt many do, but when I was building my Iroc-z I had a Turbo 370 LQ in the car and after I spun a main bearing my engine builder told me to get a relocation kit with a Big Wix Ford style filter since they don’t filter as good as a stock filter. He said the stock filter may have been filtering too well and not giving enough flow. Its like a 3.5”dia by 5”long WIX Nascar series Ford Filter.

Now I never did sell this with my motor, so I still have the filter, and relocation kit, just need some lines made, which I have all the braided hose for.

I am just worried the filter will be too big on a Stock bottom end LS1 and result in lower pressure since I am only running a ported LS6 pump, not a high pressure melling like my 370 had.

Currently my stock 94K mile bottom end LS1 makes 40-45 crusing WARM and around 30-35 Idle (875rpm) Warm.

Thoughts? Would it just be a waste of time? The only real point of this is to be able to get a better filter, seems like everyone here only carries the Fram filters and the Stock Vette ones are tiny. Usually I use the Truck Filters bc they are about 1.5 inches longer.

My setup.

Stock 94K LS1
42# Injectors (waiting to install with headers or more mods)
228/228 116lsa Cam
LS6 Intake
Vararam
Corsa Catback
Patriot Gold Springs
Chromoly push rods
ARP Head studs
LS7 Lifters
Heads have just been cleaned up and I did slight casting cleanup on the intake runners.

The car is hopefully getting a Mcleod RST and Longtubes this summer.

So you want to put a less efficient filter in your car in an effort to increase oil flow/pressure?

I guess if you put it that way it sounds like a dumb idea lol. I just figure I ahve the kit and its for an LS motor. I was always recommended to run them on my built motors, just wasnt sure if it was a great idea on a somewhat stock platform

I can certainly understand running a modified lubrication system for a dedicated race/auto-x car.......but not for a street car.

Use a quality OEM type standard length filter in the stock location.

If you have concerns about the small filter size, just replace it more often.
With improvements in engine designs, and improved engine oils, smaller filters do their job well.

It make a nice place to tap back into the oiling system if you ever plan on adding an accusump.

Pretty much a waste of time. BTW I would look for another engine builder, your filter did not cause you to spin a main bearing.

Your engine builder has more excuses than a looter going to jail! The oil filter should have no effect on pressure unless it is restrictive. Bearing clearance effects pressure as long as you have enough flow through it. If you open up a big bearing clearance or move a lot of oil through the lifters, the pressure will drop. If you plug up the regulator in the pump the pressure will go up so high you can pop a filter open. (Did that on a Boss302) You can get along fine with low oil pressure as long as you have enough flow to keep the bearings from touching metal to metal. Stock clearances on a street car don't need a lot of pressure. I've been thinking of relocation just to make it easier to change.(Less oil in my armpit)

I personally think it's a waste of time in your case. Furthermore, you're going to create more of an oil leakage risk (extra hoses and fittings) for no reason at all. Just use a good quality filter in the stock location and you're set, in my opinion. I've never heard of an LS1 failure due to the size or restriction of the oil filter.

No need to go further than this. Get a new engine builder.
