Default What's this wire?

I'm in the process of repairing a '03 Z06 that was lightly hit in the RR. The rear bumper cover and RR 1/4 panel are removed. There is a black
wire (I'm assuming it's a ground) that is clipped onto the trunk tub, near the passenger door lock, where the fender, roof, and trunk lid meet. It's a very light gauge black wire that looks like it was cut/separated in the accident. I received the car without the fender or bumper cover, so I have no idea of the arrangement before hand. I'm guessing it might go to the antenna mast bracket, which was also removed. Any ideas? I can hang the new parts without the mast bracket, which can be accessed thru one of the tail light holes, but I don't want to hang them if the wire goes to something else that must be connected before the fender is hung.

The black wire you are talking about is the antenna for the key fob.

Thanks Melvin - That sounds plausible. Actually, upon closer inspection, the wire is black and white. Here's a picture - I hope.

Here's a picture of the passenger's side of the car. Is this the wire you are talking about? If so, it would be the key fob antenna. That and the radio antenna should be the only two items outside the tub. There should be a grounding lug on the that side also on top of the rear bumper.

Hmmmm.....the picture seems to be lost in cyber space. If anyone is interested, here's the URL:

Melvin - my key fob still seems to be functional - all the buttons seem to work. Yet, this wire is not attached to anything. I guess my next question is where do I attach it? I do not see any other pieces of black/white wires in the vicinity.

Ya, thanks Mel, that's the wire. The question I have is, does the left side attach to the radio antenna mast at the ground lug? And what about the right side, where it connects near the door? Mine has a connector there but it looks like a clean cut.

That would be the key fob antenna wire. Should run from the passenger's door to the middle of the rear of the tub. It is attached to the grounding lug on top of the rear bumper mount on the passenger side. Your radio antenna will also use the same lug. All that wire does is extend the range of reception for the key fob transmitter.
