I have a 1999 C5 with magnesium wheels When I took them off to clean them I noticed two wheels had a rubber (Isolator)? on the back side by the lug nut pattern. I called the Chevrolet dealer and asked for two more and they could not find that part. What do these do? Do I need them? If so where do I get them? Thank you, Tom [IMG][/IMG]
tberg...........Last week, I pulled my magnesium wheels off to paint the calipers. I, too, noticed that one of the wheels did not have the rubber "gasket" on the backside near the lug nut holes. Like you, I went to my local Chevy dealer, but the dealer didn't know what I was talking about nor did any of their books show the "gasket."
My guess: The "gasket" acts as a buffer between the wheel and the brake disk. Possibly, the "gasket" reduces vibration?
You do need them for corrosion items !! I talked to a representative of speedline, where they are produced. He told me that they had to put it on because of corrosion problems due to the magnesium. Same rubber rings are on the Ferrari cars with Mags.
Find a place to get them and put them on!

C5 Frederik.......Thanks for the information. Do have the link to Speedline's web site? Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, Chevrolet is of no help.
But I do not think you can get it this way. If you can wait a little time I will try to get two rubbers for you from that speedline guy.
Don´t think they cost a lot. Maybe I even get them for free. If I got them I will let you know.
