Alright, this has probably been covered in the past, so I apologize if it is a repeat. What do all of you think the best mods for the most performance gain would be for under $5K, excluding the juice and gears?
You may be able to squeeze Heads/Cam and necessary bolt-ons (Headers, Bottom breather intake) in $5K installed.
Exhaust is ~$1K +/- and doesn’t really give you any HP, but is mostly for sound.
Gears are best for my money. I know you have excluded that. But that is how things get lost.
The lost item is where you have never checked out because, you know they can not be there.
Consider Gears - very reliable mod - < $1500 net trade installed - improves the entire range of every gear. No heat, no noise, almost no warrantee issues.
the low hanging fruit is a free flowing air box/filter such as:
DonaldsonBlackwing $215.00 Forum Mall
Vortex Air Rammer
Pro Flow+ Air Induction System $315.00 Installed
then i'd go for Headers, High Flow Cats, X-Pipe Exhaust:
FLP "Finish Line Performance" (package includes long tube headers, high flow cats, x-pipe) improvement and the dyno proved it out. A great system. Before: 316 RWHP w/FLPs 334 RWHP= 18 RWHP Gain Before: 331 Torque w/FLPs 344 Torque= 13 lbs. Torque Gain For what is basically a stock motor, am impressed with the results. (C54FUN) test vehicle 27 rwhp and 23 rwtq $1,599. http://www.flpexhaust.com
i just talked to my mechanic he said 700.00 to put in 3:42 gears,700.00 for torque converter,500.00 for ls6 manifold and headers should be 1300.00 the price includes parts and labor
