To my surprise my tail lights have decided they dont want to work anymore. For a while when I would turn my lights on my headlights would pop up and turn on but my dash lights and tail lights would not come on. I could then turn my lights on and off a few times and they would both come back on but now they have stopped working all together. I am wondering if this issue could be ground related or possibly hazzard switch? any ideas would help, im just waiting to get pulled over for no lights (now that its finally warming up im tempted by late night cruises.) Let me know what you guys think.
Like lucky mentioned, the headlight/blinker multifunction switch is a common problem on the C5. Symptoms are the dash lights & tail lights become intermittent, the headlights may only work sometimes, and then eventually not at all. Not having tail lights is obviously a very dangerous situation, so do not let this problem continue. Do a search in this Tech section on "multifunction switch". There is a way to disassemble the switch to clean and adjust the terminals and get it to work again. I've had to work on mine 3 times over the past year or so. I finally bought another switch, and it's getting time to swap it in.
I will give the multi function switch a try thanks. I'm wondering what is the twilight sentinel your referring to? Is that some sort of programable setting? Also one more thing is that the telescoping steering wheel has stopped working completely, could this be related as well?
Twilight Sentinal is a feature that came on some cars that automatically turns on/off the headlights based on ambient light. If you have that feature you will find the capability to turn it on or off under the OPTIONS button choices as TWILIGHT.
Here are a couple links on the multi-function switch:
Exact same thing happened to my 2000, I would say it is definitely the multifunction switch. I ordered a new one and installed it myself. Not hard at all, there is a great post on here with pictures that made it simple. Took me about 45 minutes to complete. There is also post on here that tells you how to bend the leads inside the switch to get it to work again. Didn't try that, but did keep my old one in case I ever needed to try to fix it for some reason. good luck.
