Wanting to give my car it's first good detailing since I have owned it. I have some swirls I would like to get rid of in the process. What steps do you guys take and what are some good products for each step? I have read (can remember where) that I need to wash with Dawn dish soap, then swirl remover, then claybar, then polish, then wax. What do you guys think? Any and all info appreciated.
Check out the Adam's website also. Specifically the posts by Junkman. He details this in depth. He also has a very good set of how to videos on Youtube where you can watch as he restores what can only be described as some tragically mistreated paint on his own DD.
If you wax first your going to wax over all the junk imbedded in your wax and clearcoat. Claybar all the junk off first then wax. Wash it first of course.
Follow the word of the Junkman. Seeing is believing. He is very good at what he does. Detailing is much more than just a wash and wax. Swirl prevention once corrected is the key. For that you need good towels and good products. ANd most of all proper technique. Its not all learned quickly but with a bunch of research.
Adams, Autogeek Chemical guys and Detailed Image are all places to learn.
I'd be careful in the car care forum here though as i've read some techniques that make me cringe. Remember anytime you touch your paint the possibility exists to mar or swirl the finish.
Mike Phillips at Autogeek also has MANY very good videos not tied to any one particular product line as well.
