How does "porting" increase horse power; thank you.
In general, porting helps to create better airflow. Many manifolds, especially the LS2, have ridges and places where pieces meet in the runners that disrupt airflow. Porting smooths them out. In addition, when we radically port a manifold, we also clean out the plenum which includes the center posts. Better airflow creates more power.
With all manifolds, including the FAST manifolds, we concentrate on opening up the inside radius of the runner curves to generate better airflow.
With all manifolds, we also strive to port match the runners to your head port dimensions. Especially with aftermarket and ported heads, there is opportunity to open up the runner entrances.

Thank you for the explanation. I will be considering a manifold upgrade in the future and will probably go with a FAST (ported).
I going to have a dyno tune done this Friday with only a new cat back system and CAI installed. Don't want to wait until the manifold is installed.
After the manifold is installed will it be necessary to have another dyno tune to take advantage of the additional performance?

Yes, you will need to have your car tuned after the manifold upgrade. It doesn't necessarily have to be a dyno tune. There are less expensive tuning options available.
