coolant change help

coolant change help
Good day all!! I just pulled the petcock to drain the fluid per the service manual and it only drained about a half a gallon. The coolant looks like watermelon colored cool-aid. I can't imagine that to complete this task all I have to do is now add. I'd prefer to get it all 12+quarts out and then refill.....

EDIT: I wonder if I shoud should continue with the flush procedure? If I do I'm afraid then when I redrain I'll still only get a couple quarts out.

I ended up loosening the thermostat housing and let the coolant drain out on my garage floor. (Then I began a massive clean up). 
I then filled the coolant to the "fill line when cool" level in the overflow tank and countinued on with the fill procedure. I ended up adding a little over 2 gallons of premixed DEXCOOL. Thanks. R/ Al
