Default 98 Gas Guage problem

My 98 gas guage drops to empy after about 20-30 miles of travel. Most recently it has stopped working completely , alway shows empty. I have already added two cans of fuel conditioner to the tank.
Any idea what the problem may be AND where can I get a technical artical about replacement of the sending unit if I need to do that?
Thanks.

Try just reaching under the car(a little ways in front of the rear tire) and unplugging/plugging the sending unit connectors a few times-IF they're on the bottom rear of the tank (like on my '98) the connectors are exposed to a lot of water and road crud.(it worked on mine)
If that doesn't do it (or even if it does),a jug of Techron in the tank every couple months will keep the sending units working like they should-will possibly get them working again if they aren't,but there's no guarantee of that...

similar problem on my 98. FIll it up and when I ran it down to about 3/4 tank it would go to empty. It took at least 4-5 tanks of fuel with a large bottom of techron added each time to clear the problem. That was over a year ago and have not had the problem since. Even ran it down to the "Low Fuel" waring twice, gage worked well thru the full scale. Only use the top tier fuel now and add techron about every 4 tanks or so. Good luck with yours

I might add that the techron may work better it if you burn the fuel level down to 1/4 tank or so, estimated of course in your case. I have read on here you will get a better mix in both tanks that way. The problem is usually in the right side tank fuel sending unit so it is important to get the techron over there with the fill up.

This is a common problem and yes, its usually the right tank sensor causing it. If you pull the codes, you'll find one for it. Clearing the code doesn't usually fix it but shutting down and restarting usually does. If yours is staying failed, as suggested, possibly the connector to it or the sensor is so contaminated that its beyond Techron fixing it. You can drain that tank and disassemble the sensor itself and manually clean it or you can replace it.
