Default Knocking Noise

Sometimes when I am slowly turning right into a parking spot I hear this loud knocking noise coming from my front suspension. It only happens once as if something is binding and suddenly releases causing the knocking sound. This only happens in this type of condition, no other time.

Sounds like one of your CV joints is gone..................

Put on lift and inspect front suspension. Or take to a repair shop that knows front ends and let them inspect it.

I had the brake line pop out of the clip holding it in. although it only changed positions slightly it was enough to catch the tire nubbs on a sharp slow turn to pull line and release for a noticeable knock sound.

On my 2001 coupe, I had a similar noise problem when turning at slow speed. Although it sounded like the noise was coming from the front, it was from the rear axle splines. The splines get dry and cause clicking on turns. Get car up on jackstands, remove rear wheels, remove large 33MM nut on halfshaft and liberally soak the splines in lubricant. Reinstall and torque nut and wheels. You should be good to go and quiet.

I had a noise like that on my '99 when pulling into a driveway where I worked...at a specific angle. I got under the car and put a wrench on every nut and bolt I could find till I came across the right tie-rod end nut was just a hair loose. Problem solved.

Assuming by your username you have a Z. I have read that on the FRC the body panel behind the seat has some level of flex. When turning it sounds like someone pounds the side of the rear body panel with a fist. There is a fix, but I cant remember what or where it is....

I have been told by a local Vette mech that the noise could be from sway bar end links being overtighened (over 53 ft lb torque) or interference between the spring end and A arm on lowered cars.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks for all your replies. Does anyone have a suggestion where I could go in the Tampa Bay area to have this looked at? I am leery about just taking it to one of the local national chain shops?

My noises have worsened. By disconnecting one end of the sway bar, I can determine if the noise is from the end links or not.

Any danger in doing this so long as I don't drive too aggeressively?

I had a clicking noise when turing the wheel and it was the front bearing hub bolts were loose. Tighten them and noise went away.
