Has anyone had their air check valve tick?
I've been chasing a tick in my engine for a couple of weeks now. I've ran Seafoam in the crankcase to see if it was a stuck lifter and after 250 miles I didn't get any real change. So, I drained the oil and put Valvoline Syn in as a replacement.
Last night I checked the pushrods and none of them look or sound bent(I rolled them over a piece of glass). Next thing I can think of is removing the AIR system since I'm running LG streets with no cats. Currently the pass side is blocked off, but the drivers side is connected.
I don't think it's the exhaust as it sound a bit more like a metal tick, but I guess I could be wrong.
By the way, the tick is there after the car is warm and I don't hear it at idle, but I do hear it around 1500-2000rpm. After that the exhaust is too loud and I don't hear it any longer.
I'm really hoping it's not a lifter. I've never taken the heads off a car.
Thanks for the help and ideas.
I have the same issue.. I just installed headers, midpipe, and axle-back. I have the air system hooked up on both driver and passenger side. My clicking is pretty loud after 1500rpms, not during idle, but goes at the exact same pace as the rpm's. I still haven't gotten it figured out.. I'd try to make sure all of your header bolts and air system bolts are tightened down properly and make sure that your headers aren't touching anything first. If you figure it out, please tell me! It's driving me crazy :/
Well. I'm nearly done removing my intake so that I can take that damn AIR system out. Should be done tomorrow night. My 8 month old decided that he doesn't want to sleep tonight so I'm watching him and leaving my engine apart. I'll post up when I get everything back together.
Well I got the intake off last night. It took me forever to get the bolt of the back of the head that holds the AIR tube bracket on. The fuel injector harness was pinched against the head and the drivers side check valve on the back. It took quite a bit of looking and trying different angles to finally figure it out. But they are off now and I should be putting everything together in the next couple of days. I still have to remove the pump from the fender well.
Well guys. It was the AIR system that was causing the tick. I think it was a bad EGR check valve. I have knock sensor codes now because I think I pinched the harness. I'll be checking that tonight.
