Default Crazy Idea

Thinking about installing HUD in my 2000. Anybody with any current info on the prices of the components I will need? I've read some of the post on installation procedures and I'm a little confused about the 11 pin wiring harness???? I have a thousand questions but any info you can share as it involves this process is much appreciated.

Also, opinion on what it does to the value of my car, does it hurt to modify it and it not be original equipment?

Heads up display is a great addition for the C5 cars that weren't optioned for it. I bought a complete HUD projector, Z06 instrument cluster, and the 11-pin wiring harness off this forum for $350. I bought a new dash bezel from GMPartsWarehouse and installed it in my garage. I can only think that adding HUD will increase the market of potential buyers and will add value to any car.

Here is where the 11-pin harness plugs into the gauge cluster (top center of the cluster). As long as your gauge cluster has this connector, it is considered "HUD ready". Actually I only count 10 pins...

I've personally installed five HUD's in cars that didn't come with the option. Late 99 & up you use the orginial cluster. They were setup already for them. The image on the windshield is not quite as clear as one with the option. But not that noticeable. I also installed one in my 98 which required me changing the cluster as the 97's & 98's were not setup for the HUD. But, the mounting points for the HUD are there and the template for the HUD on the dash pad are there.

Default Hud ?

I use mine often - especially on long trips - it's easy to see and I've gotten used to looking/glancing at it while driving to check my speed / etc. without taking my eyes off the road etc.

It's not necessary - but I like it and use it...

HUD is amazing... i plan to install one. @ the guy who got the cluster and all the HUD stuff for 350... that is amazing. usually you cant find all the components you need for the HUD alone for less than 400.

I bought all of the stuff off of e-Bay a couple of years back. It's my favorite mod.

A wonderful option, I used my HUD all the time. I rarely look at the guage cluster when in the C5 these days.
Never have to take my eyes away from the road.
Plus it is just cool.
