Default RWHP on mods for 2002

Hello,

I have a 2002 A4 with 2.73 gears, I have added a Powerloader, Blackwing and

a BPP power duct. Was looking earlier at a website of C5's on a dyno. It

appears based off of similar mods that I would have about 308 rwhp 315

rwtq. Would you guys agree with this and if not what would be your guess.

Also Could someone give me an estimate on 1/4 mile times as well.

Thanks

The horsepower/torque estimates are slightly optomistic (if SAE corrected) but probably in the ball park. The 2.73 gears are going to hurt your 1/4 mile times. I'd guess high 13s with a speed of 104-105.

JerryL. Wouldn't high 13's be about what stock numbers are already without mods. Corvettemuseum.com has times for 01 vette with 2.73 gears and it runs 13.65 1/4 mile.

Just dyno'd my 2002 C5 A4 this morning with a K/N conical air filter, Bassani X-pipe and Dremel'd out T/B gave 307 HP/325 TQ. My bone stock numbers were 296 HP//308 TQ.

My best stock ET/mph was 13.15 @ 106 mph. (13.15-13.44 @~106).

With my latest mods, my best ET/MPH was 12.73 @ 108.9. (12.73-12.99 for 5 runs, mph was 108 +/- 0.5 mph)

So the 12.73 is with the filter, xpipe, TB upgrade. Thats a very good. That is on 3.15 gears I assume. If I can run something close to that I would be very happy. I might have to change my gears but the PLII really helps so I am not sure yet til I run a 1/4 mile time.

Yes with 3.15's. I know the Powerloader on a C5 with 3.15's will run a little faster (maybe 0.2-0.3) than w/o because of the more optimum shift characteristics the PL gives.

BTW, all my runs are with the stock run flats which are suppose to have poor traction, but with the A4, I have gotten consistent 1.9-2.0 sec. 60 ft. times. Now, of course, if you have drag radials, those times will decrease, but 1.9's are not bad.

Upgrade to 3.15’s and you will be in the 12’s easily.

I can hardly wait until my 3500 rpm Vigilante TC is here next week. Then I can kiss traction goodbye!!!

So I would say the power loader makes up the difference between gears since their is only 1.5 tenths of a second betwen 3.15 gears and 2.73 gears in a 1/4 mile. If I am wrong please corect me. :)

I have a 2001 with a Powerloader and a few other mods.

I just dynoed today at a Dyno Day At speedworks and my new numbers are below. Last year's dyno just after I installed the PL II I had 313 and 328.

Unforyunately, I never did a Basline dyno before I put on the Vortex or Powerloader, so I don't really know how much I gained from these mods.

I think the 01's and 02's dyno better than previous years, but A4's never Dyno as well as the MN6 guys.

My 99 and others with intake/exhaust mods dyno'd all under 300 RWHP. Don't believe all those claims. Dyno your own car and see the results. I too thought I'd be laying down well over 310 RWHP based on similiar claims/posts.
295 for me and I'm a MN6. We did a dyno day for my club and dyno'd 18 cars with various mods/years etc. I now have come to the conclusion that you should divide in half any claimed HP benefit for a particular mod and hope for that.

AFVETTE,
I agree 100%. I believe a lot of the rwhp claims are uncorrected numbers. My 01 Z06 with a Vortex and TPIS long tube headers put down 337 rwhp (SAE). I've seen a lot of lightly modded C5s dyno right around 300 rwhp (SAE). Breaking into the 12s with an A4 isn't all that easy either.

Another thing to remember HP isn't cheap. Once you get past the exhaust/intake mods any real HP will start to get expensive. Not only in terms of $$$ but things like emmisions, warranty and driveablilty issues.

Once you understand that HP isn't cheap and there is no "free lunch" you'll be OK.

BTW my car base lined at 287 with just the Corsa Indy's I added the 02 LS-6 lid and dyno'd at 295.

RWhite,

Those are some very good 1/4 ET's given the mods you have on your A4. How are you launching the car? Power breaking? (if so to what RPM). I assume you have the traction control off and are leaving it in 3rd gear as well.

I am going to the track in a couple of weaks and would be happy to break 13 with the mods I have listed below.

Thanks,

2002 Black/Black A4 Coupe, 3.42 Rear, ZO6 Air Box Cover, (I'm thinking of getting the Powerloader II as the next and final mod)

So if we take half the numbers of HP claims that means a blackwing would be 8 hp and a power duct would 3 to 4 hp and a powerloader would be 7 hp. If you total them thats 368hp at the flywheel and asuming a 20% loss on A4 that be 294 RWhp. Would you guys agree with that and what kind of 1/4 mile times should be expected with 2.73 gears and a 2002

>How are you launching the car?

1500 rpms or so.

>I assume you have the traction control off and are leaving it in 3rd gear as well.

Yes. T/C kills your ET by 0.3 or so. I also heat up the Run Flats pretty good in first gear in the water box. Contrary to what many say, heating the radials up does improve the launch.

>and are leaving it in 3rd gear as well.

Yes on this also.

I looked back at all my runs since I received the car in January. My runs have been from 13.60 (T/C on) to 12.73 most recently.

13.15-13.44 Bone stock (4 runs)
12.90-13.6 (K/N conical) (7 runs)
12.73-12.99 (present mods) (5 runs)

Another factor you must take into count is that all these runs were in perfect weather, cool in the 50's and low humidity. If I run in August here in Texas, my times will suffer greatly, assuming all things constant.

Your on track with your mods...but the 2.73's are KILLING your times!! With a 3.42 and T/C you should expect at least a .5 lower e.t. and about 5-6 mph more through the traps. :yesnod

The only problem is now you will have to get that Powerloader reprogrammed and that will take a long time to get back.

I am sure your right on the wait time for the PLII but what can you do. With the mods I have listed what do you think my 1/4 mile time would be now. Also do you think I should add gears and TC or just gears.

RWhite

Thanks for the info. Will try the launch at 1500 rpms and try to heat the tires up a bit.

Mean Green

Awesome ET for only intake and exhaust. I hope I get a sticky track whe I go :)

Golfman

It seems that most A4's who have upgraded their gears have gone with both the gears and the TC at the same time since most of the labor involved is the same for both. I only did the gears for Warranty reasons and for traction reasons. There is no way the runflats will hold well with both of these mods. But definately at least go for one or the other or both. I had the 2.73's and the 3.42's make a world of a difference both from a dead stop and at speed.

Good luck with your decisions

Diffenttly go with the power loader it's awesome. SOTP feeling is great seems like a different car go through richard at exit28motorsports. I got mine in 3 weeks. I will probably just do gears since I dont feel like having a traction issue with tires right now and I dont really go to the track Have you gone to the track in your 2002 yet interested to see the 1/4 mile times with the gears since I have a black 2002 A4 as well.

Yes I am planning on going to the track in a coujple of weeks. My goal is 12.9 ( I know it's pretty silly but I really want to break 13). If I go with the powerloader than I will wait until I get that before hitting the track.

And if I get the Powerloader it will definitely be from Richard at Exit 28. He's a really nice guy and very knowledgeable. Those guys seem to get these units quit too which doesn't hurt :D

Yes we both have those beautiful black coupes. Great color, a little hard to keep clean but worth it.

You will not be sorry if you get the 3.42 gears. But the only problem is you will have to get the Powerloader re-programmed to handle the new gears. Some of the folks on the Forum are having problems getting thiers back. Good luck and enjoy :)
