Is anyone familiar with tactics to beat emissions tests (other than a $50 spot to a shady mechanic)? Possibilities might include very restrictive intake filters in order to reduce overall engine flow, fuel additives to effect a more complete burn, etc.
It seems that we need a weapon in the battle against the Greenies, who make me want to :U
I understand stringent emissions for places like L.A., but for 99% of the usa...come on!
Best thing I've done for my 2001 convertible is go to my local exhaust shop and have them build me 2 each custom straight pipes with flanges out of 304 ss tube to replace the short span between the manifold flanges and my Corsa exhaust / x-pipe. That short section contains both the pre-cat and post cat and O2 sensor terminals. I run the O2 plugs from West Coast that tricks out the sensor for the PCM. No problems so far, gained some horsepower, lost all of the popping due to unspent fuel detonating in the cats, etc.
Total cost for the pipes was $350 - I do the swap so the shop stays legal - and we're off. Now, I do not have to do an emissions test until June 2003 so it'll be a while before I can advise on that. My position is that with these puppys, I can be legal with full cats, etc at emissions test time.
