Default Knock Retard & Autotap

I just got my car back from H&C and LS1 Edit. When I autotap my car now it tells me it can not find the Knock Retard parameter and that it is not supported by my car. Anybody have any ideas why it can't find it now?

I don't know the answer to your question but how do you like the h/c? What did you dyno at?? Are you going to the cruise in, if so, when are you leaving? I am leaving Thurs. night with another forum member so you are welcome to join the caravan? Cheers...

Right now I am less than 100% happy with my H&C. Been having way to many problems. Initially after the install my car dyno'd at 290hp (down 25hp from before the work started). So back it went to the shop. Then it was found out that the cats were plugged so I just had them removed. They told me it dyno'd at 380 after they were taken off. So if you subtract the increase you would get from no cats it would really be around 365hp. So I only gained around 50 ponies from a H&C install.

Are you sure you are selecting the proper Knock Retard parameter from within Autotap? There is no logical reason why it wouldn't let you monitor that from your PCM.

Removing Cats does not get you even anywhere close to 15rwhp on a heads/cam car. When I removed them on my rather agressive heads/cam car I gained absolutely no peak power, but I did pick up some nice torque in the lower RPMs, which is what you feel everytime you drive the car.

There is something seriously wrong with your setup. You should be putting down at LEAST 400 RWHP, easily. I think you should be at 425 RWHP. What did VetteWrench say about it?

I agree with you C5Noir I should be easily over 400hp. Both A.R.E. and MTI said the same thing, should be 400+. :mad

I agree, too. There's no logical reason you can't read Knock Retard with your AT software.

Also, I agree that you should be closer to the 400 hp range at the wheels with your combo. I dyno tuned the company C5 at D&M to 417 rwhp with just a heads and cam combo through cats and basically stock exhaust....and that's on crappy winter IL gas too!

Stu, that's 380 RWHP, with the stock programming. I know we told you this.

So, the question is when are you bringing it back for the tuning? We know you have been dying to drive your Vette but, it still needs to be tuned to get everything out of it. Then you will be already to open some whoop butt on those unsuspecting victims. :D

I have experienced this same thing :yesnod: ...its the connection under the dash :yesnod: .. make sure all connections are tight for GOOD communication

Naw, it can't be the connection. Either you get paramaeters or you don't . Having the connector somewhat skewed won't allow or disallow parameters at will. I'll bet it's a software glitch that, for some reason, his version is incomplete. I'd go back to the AT site and redownload the Windows version and see if that clears things up.

Otherwise, meet me at Speed, Inc in Schaumberg and I'll scan it for you and see what my AT says. Otherwise call me at 708-945-3264.

Nope, been able to duplicate by jiggling the connection, some parameters read, some don't. There are several pins in the connector.

Uhhhhh, well, that is true, there are many pins on the ALDL connector (16 to be exact) only 3 are actually used, +12v, Ground and a serial communication pin. You can't get "some" information and not others. The only thing I can suggest is that you're getting intetmittant communication via the cable connector wiggling and it's fast enough to make and break and make connection again that the AT doesn't see it as a total miscommunication.

Call AT (i.e. B&B Electronics) if you don't believe me at 815-433-5100 and ask for their tech support.

Not slamming anyone's information here, just adding good information. :jester

I have similar problem with ATAP - when I add the knock retard or spark retard parameter it immediately tells me it is 'attempting communication to vehicle' and ultimately fails. If I delete this parameter it works, and it always works if I don't have this parameter selected. I have Superchips custom programming. Good luck. If anyone knows anything about this problem, please email me. thanks, Cliff
