Default 192 degrees

My 2000 vette is stock. It runs 192 degrees never seen it any warmer. My cousin has a 2000 also.He just changed his thermostat to run a little warmer. He said ls motors need to run at least 200. Is there anything to this.I am thinging 192 is fine for me. He said in 2001 they put a hotter thermostat in them. Thanks for any input

You're new...............THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CAR...........
We are in control, do not try to make adjustments. Get in, drive, enjoy.

In reality your temps are good. In the future try searching and read some of the posts, before you think you have a problem.

Welcome to the forum...........

Strange....the C5 parts manual calls for the same part number from 97-01 (including LS6).

To make it simple so everyone understands - your cousin doesn't know what he's talking about.

I have a stock 2004 Automatic. "Homeless" never has water temps higher than 192 degrees, but my water temp on a recent long road trip (1000 miles in two days) rose slowly each day so that by the end of the day it was up to 210 degrees. Both days were about 85 or so. Normally, around town for shorter trips, the temp is a little lower.

I have no interest in racing or worring about the last little horsepower bump out of the car, but for the sake of engine life, are the lower temp thermostats helpful?

Or, did GM design the engine cooling system to run close to normal boiling temps for emissions and fuel economy or ????

AFAIK, there is no problem with my cooling system, so my question is about understanding the possible need(?) for different thermostats.

Thanks,

Mine runs in the 200's, these LSX motors actually can run a lot hotter than that with no problem.

Thanks,
Water doesn't boil when pressurized and with anti-freeze, at 212.
The C-4's and C-5's were engineered to run in the 200's for emissions.
