FYI, The temp of the fluid you are checking is very important. SM states that the fluid temp must be between 86F - 122F when checking it's level.
How do I know?.... mine was full @ 180F. It was 22 oz. low at the proper temp.

I always try to check the fluid at 104 degrees, which is the midpoint of the above temps.
