so i have read a few places that there is a shifter linkage upgrade mod?
i thing its something like a c6 linkage swap? also i have read about people doing a c6 shifter swap.
why would someone wanna swap to a c6 rather than aftermarket???

Because it's usually cheaper and the C6 shifter is a big improvement over the C5. I drove a C5 Z with a C6 shifter on it and it was pretty sweet, lower effort and the **** allowed for better control, IMO.
im just curious, as im running a hurst in my c5 now.
I am running a 06 Z06 shifter and box that I cut down 1" and threaded. I'm using an MGW Gripper ****. This set up cost me all of about $75 with smart shopping. I can't personally compare it to any aftermarket C5 shifter but it is a significant improvement over stock in looks and comfort.
I tried out several different shifter including a C6Z06 unit before deciding on the Hurst. The Z06 shifter was OK, but not a HUGE difference.
Personally, I think it would have worked a lot better if I could have had a place like MGW cast the bottom pivot in plastic like they do on their shifter instead of using the snap-on stock plastic piece. Just a theroy and I don't know if MGW can do that.
The Hurst unit is as "race" as I would go for a street car. It drives well but for waxer types it would be too much and the C6Z piece would be a better choice there.

Can't compare to your hurst as I have an MGW but I like the MGW over the C6 shifter. The MGW is stiffer but I like that feature because it feels more positive. You may use more effort to engage the gear but you know it.
Plus, the finish and quality of the MGW is incredible.
