So I finally have my hinson single turbo z06 running and driving. A rebuilt all forged 347 is in the car with a new ls6 stock oil pump.
At hot idle the car makes 9-11 psi of oil pressure. Oil temps at abt 235 F.
I cant get the needle to go past 42 psi max at higher revs. My valvetrain sounds like a sewing machine, but then again I do have dual springs, hardened pushrods, ls7 lifters. So I think it should probably sound a little like that. I am going to change the oil pressure sensor right now in my warehouse, and change the oil. The oil in it now is a 10w30 conventional mobile one (my engine break in oil). I have about 700 miles on this oil, and on my motor.
It was rebuilt by a reputable shop, and I am worried to death that I have to take the motor out again to send it back to them.
Could my 76mm turbo be this hungry for oil that I am seeing this low pressure?
Will take a wild guess that the oil-pump o-ring isn't in correctly. Truly I know nothing about your particular motor.
I have to admit, I had this happen to me and it wont happen again. The oring pinched out on the inside and it had a cut which allowed it to suck air. I had the same symptoms. I pulled the filter, cut it open, and there it was, small little blue pieces. After installing HV/HP Melling and new oring problems solved. I got 50 cold / 40 hot and no more sewing machine
changed oil to rotella t6 15 40 and the engine is quieter and at hot idle I see 24 psi oil pressure. For some reason though my oil dipstick blew oil and sprayed oil everywhere
improper vented crankcase can cause low oil pressure? I have the revextreme catch can setup (dual) which I installed per the instructions...
this blowing out the oil dipstick thing happened only once just after I changed the oil. I went back out on another road test and it didnt happen again
Im betting someone did a ****** build on my motor.
for some reason though my oil pressure is definitely better than it was, and the sewing machine sound from my valvetrain is nowhere near to what it was.
Also, I am thinking maybe my oil dipstick came out from being too full? I put 6.5-7 qts in the thing

If you had it assembled with GM gskts ect. The Oil pickup oring isnt orange for any engines, I believe there is just black, red, green, and blue. The only thing orange is the seal on the cam/oil gallery plate in the front. Either way there shouldnt be any oring materiaL in your filter. Check your pushrod length as well, or have it done by your builder. If they dont know what to do go somewhere else that does. Chances are they are too short.
so the orange gasket material I am finding in the motor could just be excess rtv from the build?
My current pushrods ate hardened 7.4 inch... I am running ferrara valves, with ls7 lifters.. I am also using stock rockers but with upgraded bearings from COMP. I am using 317 heads...
I did see a pearl colored material in the oil filter when I used my finger to swirl it around also. But this is non magnetic bearing material and apparently normal during the break in process right?
Also, again after my oil change my pressure seems to be a good bit better. Still not sure why it was so low to begin with.
I cant say where Orange RTV was used?? The seal behind the plate I was referring to is a formed rubber seal used to seal the Lifter galleries. No one should use silicone anywhere other than the correct sealant in 4 corners of the pan. The last nonmetalic shimer I saw in the oil and filter was due to debris going through the oil pump itself. The inner housing was scored up to the point where substantial oil pressure was lost

7 quarts is not going to blow out your dipstick....
its not coolant. I am not losing coolant at all nor burning it nor smelling it, nor do I have the appearance of water in my oil. That would be a bit milky and since the two dont mix, it wouldnt look the way it does. I have read that some bearing material in the break in oil can be normal on a brand new rebuild.
I am however noticing my oil pressure is lower when i run the crap out of the car and the oil temps run as high as 260F. These cars have no oil cooler, and I think having one may very well help me. As I sit even with the high temps after the oil change I am getting 22-24 psi at hot idle now. So Idk what to do. Ill change the oil again soon and see how it looks now.
