Well finally got my FRC out on a track and of course after just a few laps the oil temp got up to about 258-265. It was in Nashville and the track temp was around 100 degrees but I know I should probably go ahead and get an aftermarket cooler since I do HPDE occasionally.
Just wondering if I could get some feedback on which set up is a good bang for the buck option that also performs well.
I have an oil cooler setup that is built around a Setrab cooler and Mocal thermostat. I would happy to share the specs with you. PM me w/your email and I will send you the documentation that I have.
Mocal seems to be a very popular oil cooler setup--here is a link to a shop that carries them -- ALSO google" Mocal LS1" and there are 100's of hits from users etc-
I have the DRM unit with the track only or larger heat exchanger. My goal for the car is primarily track with occasional street use. Ran Pocono 3 weeks ago with ambient temps in the 50s and my oil temp maxed out around 225. last year same track with ambient in the 70s and I was in the 250+ range.
An issue you'll have will be getting the oil hot enough when cruising with the car, but I just drop it down in a lower gear for a bit and that'll heat her up.
Randy at DRM is very helpful if you have questions. It's a bit of a bear feeding the lines along the block but doable. I taped the ends of the lines with masking tape when I did to keep the crap out of them
