Default Torque Converters and 'creep'

For all of you that have replaced your stock converter with a higher stall, does your car still creep forward on its own at idle (please note if you've increased the idle speed from stock)? At approximately what stall speed would the creep go away (if at all)?

The stock setup will even hold the car on an incline without using the brake. Will higher-stall t/c's continue to do that as well? Or will the car roll backwards?

The main reason I got an A4 was for stop/go traffic since this is my daily driver. And being able to creep forward just by letting off the brake (and not rolling backwards on slight inclines) is a big part of that.

I'm interested in getting a t/c and 3.42 gears sometime down the road, but I don't want to lose this characteristic of the A4. Thanks for your input.

I cannot speak for those guys with 3500+ stalls. For mine with 3000 stall, car will still roll from a flat road without brake, however, more slower than stock. I think it reaches a "max speed" of around 3-4mph. Stock I think I was at 7-10mph. On slight inclines it stays and does not roll backward. Not sure that's possible once in a forward gear. Other factors that depend are stall speed, idle characteristics via cam, gear ratio, etc..

I can mostly agree with George..I am running a pro torque 2400 with stock idle (600) and I get creep, probably no more than 3 mph as well. Thats with 330rwhp and a 3:15 stock gear! I have never experienced a roll back either as would a stick....I can promise you though, the lack in creep will be made up in launch and from a roll :yesnod:

The creep is a very slight crawl with 3.42 gears and a 2400 and 2800 t/c. I 've had both and niether will change the dialy characteristics of driving that you notice it ..:D

That's good to hear. Anyone with a 3500 or higher stall converter care to comment?

Don't have mine installed yet, but I rememebr last week 2001 Red Coupe Bandit told me he drove Topless Texans 3.42s and SY3500 and it did roll forward, but I have not tried it yet.

I have a friend with an 4000 stall and he gets the same creep as me with the 2800.

Mine still creeped forward on flat ground and it would hold it's position on a slight incline.I'll be finding out soon how the PYE4000 does!!!!!

My setup with PT 2900 and 3.42 rear creeps. Not sure about the incline thing though

I've had two PT 2400s in my car. The first one was having lockup problems, and it felt a little "sloshy" driving around at slower speeds (below 45 when lockup wasn't engaged). The second one feels more stock when just letting off the brake (creeps a little more) and at partial throttle low speeds, which I really like. I hated that sloshy feeling at low speeds. It made the exhaust louder, and the car didn't feel as sharp or responsive to the throttle while moving. However, with either TC, the launch from a standstill was awesome. Plenty of wheelspin just by stomping on the gas.
