Default Suggestions for new exhaust?

Hello everyone. Just bought a 2000 Vette with everything being stock. I am looking into modding some things and the first mod I wanted to take care of was a new exhaust.

Looking for an aggressive sounding system but don't want to break the bank to get it. Any suggestions on a high quality, great sounding system out there that isn't very expensive? Pricing would also help so I have an idea of what to expect.

I would also like to hear any experiences you have had with certain exhausts? Good or bad.

Thanks everyone.

I had the bullets, they sounded loud and mean with the stock system but when I put on headers and a larger diameter X pipe they just got stupid loud. I am swapping them out for a C5 Z06 exhaust. They are free flowing, lightweight, relatively tame at idle with a good sound when you get on it. You should be able to pick one up from around 300-350ish.

Depends on your short-term plans:

Just cat-back exhaust: Go with GHL Bullets or Borla Stingers (I have stingers and I love them but keep in mind that exhaust sound is very subjective, best thing you could do is find a local corvette club and listen to a few. You Tube will work, but it's better to hear them in person.)

Long Tube Headers: Unless you like you're exhaust to be STUPID LOUD just go with Z06 Titanium (stock) exhaust and be done with it. Around half the price of the others (used) and they sound good with headers.

Another alternative for you would be to have electronic cutouts installed. Loud when you want it quiet when you don't.

Good luck

Damn... got a sound clip by any chance? That's gotta sound sick. I'm going to to LT's soon and am thinking I'll swap my borlas for stock with cutouts, but I could always change my mind... the neighbors don't really need sleep anyway

The first three catbacks I bought were used, and I always paid less than half of new. The good ones are all SS, so if they aren't dented up, will last longer than your patience.

Well, good luck with your decision. Just really depends on how much loud you can handle. I know I did alot of searching for different exhaust systems, listened to the youtube sound clips, asked in here, I went with the Billy Boat prt's $950.00 shipped, things to consider are is it a daily driver? Mine is, so I wanted something that has good sound and not too obnoxious. I also considered the cutouts but was concerned about soot under car and wires melting and what if they got to dirty to close, and heat... could be a high maintence item...some systems are Magna flow, XS, Corsa, Billy Boat, Borla, Flowmaster, GHL....Place with good prices is Marylandspeed.com

Thanks for the info everyone. Yes, I have also been looking on Youtube and listening to the different styles. My previous vette (85) had flowmaster exhaust and it sounded very good. My 2000 vette is not a daily driver. I really like the Billy Boat Bullet exhaust but I think it is a little out of my price range at this time. I may just go ahead with the Flowmaster.

I'd recommend the XSPower 2.5" system. I think they still go for around the $650 shipped I got mine for, available from Superman09 here on the forums. Great tips, good volume level, fit/finish is good, all stainless, and no drone. Couple videos in my sig.

Well, I checked with some local exhaust places and they seem to be a bit over priced... They want $600 for 2 flowmaster 80 series mufflers...just the mufflers... and I would have to get a borla X frame if I wanted to replace the entire exhaust... another $250... so I'd be looking at $850 all together before installation...They said that Flowmaster doesn't have a full kit for the 2000 vettes... :/

GHL - I have had mine on the car since I bought it. 100 or so 1/4 mile passes and many miles on the road course and never an issue.
