You can, especially if it is a "Battery Tender" or other low voltage unit. If you use a regular "charger", I would take it out just to be on the safe side. :)
My battery charger has a 2AMp. 10Amp, and 50Amp/Jump Start settings. I have had to charge the battery several times. Here is what I do:
Leave the battery connected
With the battery UNPLUGGED :
connect the positive cable to the positive terminal
connect the negative cable to the bracket that hold the alternator(one clamp will slide right in that slot so it is very secure)
set the charger to the 2Amp setting
Plug in the charger. :seeya :chevy

I used a battery maintainer while in storage for 4 months without disconnecting the battery. I had no problems when I finally started it. With a maintainer or tender it will only cut on when the batteries voltage goes down. I think with a trickle charger you have to make sure it doesn't over charge.
